About Soul Food

Noun: soul food - Food traditionally eaten by African-Americans in the Southern states of USA

The origin of Soul food is from the Southern slave states, which is why it is often also called southern cooking.

Starting first in New Orleans Louisiana, then in places like Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi, the unique Soul Food cuisine has roots of over 400 years old using the extraordinary blends of Cajun and Creole spices from a history of French, Spanish, Italian, Indian and African cultures.

Some staples of 'Soul Food' that have become famous are...Cajun Chicken, Blackened Fish, Gumbo, Jambalaya, BBQ Ribs, Buffalo Wings, Crab Cakes, Collard Greens, Black Eyed Peas, Corn Bread and Sweet Potato Pie.

Soul Food Kitchens are located all thoughout the United States, but although soul food is extremely popular in America, the evolution of Soul Food in Australia has been limited. In fact, the only authentic source of this cuisine has been exclusively available from Victor Kimble's Soul Food Kitchen.

For African Americans, soul food is about more than just the food, it is the sense of belonging and the comfort of family and fellowship shared over a meal. In the south, mothers learned from the grandmothers who learned from the great grandmothers. Where love and determination to survive prevailed and cooking practices were centuries refined into the cuisine we can enjoy with Australia's own Soul Food Kitchen products today.
